Questions & answers
THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE LIGHT
Why is the engine temperature light on on my dashboard?
The engine temperature light, generally represented by a red thermometer submerged in liquid, goes on when the on-board computer detects an overheating that could permanently damage the engine. Incidentally, this kind of overheating does not occur without warning. Indeed, it is possible to follow the fluctuations of your engine’s temperature on the dashboard. If your engine overheats, it could be the result of a leak in the cooling system, a problem with the belt, or something completely different. The most important thing to do is to stop the vehicle and turn off the engine.
THE CABIN FILTER
Unpleasant odours permanently fill the interior of my car and the air is increasingly vitiated. I was told it could be the cabin filter. What is that exactly?
Not to be confused with the engine’s air filter located under the hood, the cabin filter’s only purpose is to filter the cabin’s ambient air. Generally located behind the glove compartment, this device prevents dust, pollen and dirt from bothering you when you are sitting in your car. Although it enables you to drive without having to worry about the ambient air quality, the cabin filter does not last forever and needs to be replaced, it cannot just be cleaned. Indeed, a dirty cabin filter loses all its efficiency and needs to be replaced as soon as possible. Fortunately, this is generally an inexpensive routine operation.
